The Olive Tree – A Poem

A long time ago,b0ce732eec01faed990c7dde094c8af9

I planted a tree,

for the words that you

would not  hear.

Beginning as a seed,

blown into the soil

though the dark;

it ached with things

left unsaid.

Over time,

the seed grew

into a tall tree that

s           t           r           e          c          h          e          d

towards the sky.

Still more time passed,

then small olives

started to show themselves

amongst the leaves,

looking like flowers,

jade against the emerald.

The olives grew words

along their skins.

words like:

Batman

Superman

Macaroons

ACDC

Vanilla Ice

New Kids on the Block (oops, that one’s mine…)

Bryan Adams

The Steve Miller Band

13 Ghosts

Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?

Ruffy

The Mummy

Incredible Hulk

The Phantom of the Opera (oops, me again!)

The Super Ex

The Smith’s Falls Chocolate Factory.

Then the words would begin to

F

A

L

L

They rolled over to you,

like jewels in the grass.

But the words,

such as they were,

went unread.

So for now,

the words will stop coming

.

However,

an olive tree can live for a

very

long

time.

It will grow olives,

for as long as there is someone there

to look for the

words.
